Royal Mail Planning to Introduce Two New Parcel Return Services

11th January 2013

Royal Mail is due to launch two new parcel return services for businesses. Launching in February, the new Tracked Returns parcel service will enable businesses to provide a free returns service for their customers. With a choice of 1st or 2nd class parcel delivery options, the service will provide free proof of postage for customers, in addition to a parcel scan service at the Post Office counter when the parcel is dropped off. The package will then receive a further scan at the parcel delivery office when it is received for return to the retailer.

Meanwhile, the International Returns parcel service will provide consumers with the option to return parcels at a reasonable cost to the retailer. Launching across 26 European countries, consumers will have easy access to the service via the post box or their local Post Office counter. Costs will start at £5.59 plus VAT for items below 500g and will rise to £9.05 plus VAT for items weighing up to 2kg. The aim of the service is to prevent consumers living outside of the UK from having to pay high fees for parcel returns when sending items back to Britain. The service will have a single returns label for all countries covered in the scheme, making the set up really easy.
