DPD Germany Opens New 42m Parcel Sorting Office

3rd January 2013

International parcel delivery company DPD has opened a brand new EUR 42m parcel sorting office near Cologne in Germany. With “leading-edge” conveyor technology, the new site, which has been built to be as environmentally friendly as possible, boasts one of the highest capacities of any parcel centre to exist within the DPD network. More than 300 members of staff will be employed at the new sorting office, in addition to roughly 350 parcel delivery drivers. Capable of processing more than 18,000 parcels per hour, the centre has a host of first class facilities, including automatic weighing, scanning and volume measurement systems.

DPD’s success within the parcel industry is increasingly growing, with DPD Germany processing a record number of parcels during the Christmas period. Figures show that, during its peak period, the company was dealing with 1.55 million packages per day.
